Thorn Digital Defenders
2015 Impact Report

Thorn shines a light on the darkest corners of the internet.

In 2015, we built a tool - Spotlight - to help identify child sex trafficking victims and arrest their abusers.

Today, Spotlight is used by more than 0 officers in 0 states and has helped reduce investigative time by nearly 0%.

Spotlight has helped officers identify 360+ victims and arrest 60+ traffickers.

[That's 1 victim found per day]

In 2015, we invested in Project Vic - a law enforcement tool that helps officers catalog and share information about known child abuse imagery.

This program allows them to know if a picture is a new child being abused, or an old photo being recirculated.

Now, officers can solve cases that used to take 6-12 months in 15 minutes.

Project Vic has helped law enforcement identify over 250 child victims and 125 perpetrators.

These tools are powerful, but we want to stop this crime from happening in the first place.

Our deterrence program has intercepted 288,286 people looking for child sexual abuse imagery.

We connect them to resources to help stop their behavior.

There is so much work to be done.

In November 2015, we opened the Thorn Innovation Lab to tackle some of our biggest technical challenges.

Industry leaders are taking up these challenges with us.

"This is by far one of the hardest problems to solve and one of the startups I'm most proud of."
